Krebs Engineering, Inc., (Krebs) has received the 2015 Engineering Excellence Design Award for the state of Alabama from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in the category of Water Resources for their planning and design of the Saugahatchee Lake Complex.
The Utilities Board of the City of Opelika (OUB) engaged Krebs to design a ‘green field’ water resource complex with the overarching concept of the project being a radical departure from typical water treatment plant projects. The Board was looking to consolidate four of their existing facilities to one central location therefore increasing their operational efficiency and minimizing future increases in costs bore by ratepayers. The new facilities included an eight (8) million gallon per day water treatment plant, an 11,000 square foot (SF) Administrative and Customer Service Facility, an 8,000 SF Field Services and Training Facility, and a Vehicle/Equipment Storage Facility. The Administrative and Field Services facilities achieved LEED Silver certification.
